Daft Punk Surprise Phoenix Fans At Madison Square Garden
By Seraphina L.
CMJ may be going on in NYC this week for the freshest bands, but if you opted to see a bigger band – say, Phoenix – you may have just witnessed the most surprising and awesome event to get you through your middle of the week slump. French electronic duo, Daft Punk, gave Phoenix fans an extra bonus for paying those prices to get into Madison Square Garden tonight. Even if you didn’t have a friend in NYC texting you like crazy about this magical moment, the entire nation got into a huge tizzy over it on (you guessed it) Twitter.
In case you still don’t believe this happened, Consequence of Sound has even captured all the “chatoic, OMFG tweets” in a screen shot through their twitter feed. In fact, if you were to search for Daft Punk or Phoenix tonight with or without a hash tag, you could probably still read hundreds of more Twitter users freaking (or regretting they didn’t go.)
Hopefully, some videos will pop up of the French bands performing together but for now, you can go ahead and check some photos out on Consequence of Sound and Brooklyn Vegan.
Phoenix guitarist, Laurent Brancowitz was briefly in the band Darlin’ with Daft Punk members Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, but to see the duo walk out during the encore and hear “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger” mixed into “1901″ must have been something else. The French must stick together!
Were you there at Madison Square Garden when Daft Punk stepped out on to stage tonight?

I was there! One of the coolest experiences of my life. For a second I thought I was imagining it. The crowd went wild! I will never forget it

way overhyped. daft punk cant even sell out more than 3-4 choice shows on their own tour…so they put on some masks, pushed the play button on a premixed computer at a phoenix show (who actually did not sell out MSG and tickets were available for $30 or less outside the venue) and now this is viewed as the greatest concert not to be missed?
gimme a break.
and i happen to be a fan of both bands but the media spin on this show is out of this world
