The Fall’s Mark Smith Hurls A Bottle At Mumford And Sons During Music Festival
By Travis WoodsWhen he’s not busy still claiming that Pavement is nothing but a ripoff of his band, The Fall, famously cantankerous singer Mark E. Smith has publicly outed himself as being something less than a fan of the much-buzzed-about folk duo Mumford and Sons: “I just thought they were a load of retarded Irish folk singers.”
According to Spinner:
“In fact Smith claims he even went so far as to throw a bottle at the folk combo when the two bands played at a recent festival in Dublin…
“’We were playing a festival in Dublin the other week. There was this other group warming up in the next sort of chalet, and they were terrible.’
“He continued, ‘I said, ‘Shut them c—- up,’ and they were still warming up, so I threw a bottle at them.’
“Both bands were on the bill for the Electric Picnic festival which took place last month outside Dublin.”
Now it’s one thing for a musician not to like a fellow musician, but you’d think that a singer as long in the tooth as Smith would resort to the dreaded move (at least, a move dreaded by musicians on stage) of throwing a bottle at performers. But then, Smith has never exactly been known for his tact.
What do you think of Smith’s bottle-tossing?
