Talk about getting thrown a musical guest curveball. Actress and singer-songwriter Zooey Deschanel sang “God Bless America” during the 7th inning of Game 3 of the National League Championship Series played between the San Francisco Giants and the Philadelphia Phillies Tuesday night at AT&T Park in San Francisco, California.

Not to be outdone, Deschanel’s husband, Death Cab for Cutie’s Ben Gibbard, performed “The Star-Spangled Banner” before the game.

Check out both performances below!

Gibbard, a big fan of baseball, is no stranger to baseball game gigs: he and the Death Cab boys played a medley of baseball songs (think John Fogerty’s “Centerfield”) before the Seattle Mariners’ home opener this season.

No reason to think Deschanel and Gibbard’s musical appearance had any affect on the outcome, but for the record, the San Francisco Giants beat the Philadelphia Phillies 3-0, taking a two games to one lead in the NLCS.

What did you think of Zooey Deschanel and Ben Gibbard performing at the baseball game?
