Kanye West’s Runaway is a ‘Dark Twisted Fantasy’
By Laura Aguirre
The number one trending topic on Twitter this past Saturday was #askkanye. The big question being, “Why did Kanye West make a 35-minute music-based film?” He has more talent in his little pinky than most people have in their entire bodies, and “Runaway” just supports that. It’s an extremely long music video for his latest single from his forthcoming album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, and well, the title speaks for itself. Take a look below…
This is definitely a fantasy. From the deers to the birds to the beautiful Victoria’s Secret model (Selita Ebanks) in the bird costume. “Runaway” is filled with symbols and metaphors and the film will surely be a good discussion topic when you’re with friends. But then again, isn’t that what Kanye wants?
This is definitely a watercooler topic. From our perspective, the rapper wants the public to understand the isolation and criticism he’s received over the past year (even though it was caused by his own bad behavior). The phoenix character is a representation of an outsider who’s being forced to conform to our world’s standards by those around her. Sound familiar? It’s questionable, but it’s beautiful. Good job, Kanye!
My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy will be released November 22, 2010.
What do you think of the video?
