After being raked over the coals in Keith Richards’ new autobiography, Life, Mick Jagger has finally responded-albeit nonspecifically—to the accusations Keef lobbed at his pretentiousness, singing style, and, er, penis size.
According to Spinner:
“Personally, I think it’s really quite tedious raking over the past… Mostly, people only do it for money.
“You don’t want to end up like some old footballer in a pub, talking about how he made the cross in the cup final in 1964,… Public people put a lot of energy into what people think about them. Everyone does. I don’t care what they say. Everyone cares about it. You always want to control your image. I mean, you obviously can’t control it 100 percent. But if you’re a famous person, you obviously have a public personality … that you want to project.”
So there you have it, folks. As far as comebacks go, after being accused of being a pretentious rip-off artist with undersized genitalia, I would probably come up with a better zinger than “tedious.” But then, Mick Jagger is a knight now, so I suppose some decorum is required, right?
What do you think of Mick’s measured response to Keith’s testy autobiography?
