Bob Seger to Launch North American Tour This March
By Joseph Oliveto
As the song goes, rock and roll never forgets, and by the looks of it, it doesn’t quit, either. According to ThirdAge, famous Detroit musician Bob Seger will be teaming back up with his Silver Bullet Band for a tour of North America this March, their first since 2007. While not as popular as some of his peers, Seger is still a legend, and we expect that this tour will draw a crowd; the question is, will fans be in for a good show?
No official dates have been scheduled yet, but from what we’ve heard, Seger will stop by New York state, Massachusetts, and several other popular music destinations across North America.
Seger rose to popularity via tunes like “Night Moves” and “Turn the Page.” His music has always expressed a deep love of rock and roll, and while he may not have been as successful as Springsteen, just like The Boss, he used music to give a voice to the rank and file Americans, the blue collar workers who grew up on Buddy Holly and The Beatles but never made it out of their hometown. It’s a distinct genre of rock, one rooted in the mythology of the United States, and Seger has practiced it admirably. He knows who is audience is and he knows that they want an entertaining live show; luckily, he’s been known to deliver.
But at his age–sixty-five–can he still be a dynamic performer? No one is questioning his songwriting skill, but rock music comes from youthful energy, and you always have to stop and wonder: is it better to burn out than to fade away? Seger may have been a crowd-pleaser in his heyday, but can the stars of his generation still capture that intensity?
To his credit, Springsteen definitely can, so maybe Seger is up to the same task. We’ll have to wait to hear what audiences have to say, but in the meantime, chime in with your own thoughts.
Should aging rock stars retire and leave the past behind them, or should they tour as long as they possibly can? Why, or why not?

I saw Seger a few years ago in Michigan. Don't let Bob's age fool you. He's still a very talented and dynamic performer. He has a huge fan base and his concerts are always sellouts. I'm looking forward to seeing him again!

We saw him during the '06/'07 tour and he was fantastic. Great energy. I'm expecting nothing less with this tour. Rock on, Bob.

I saw him in '06 and '07, and while his voice isn't what it used to be, he can still put on a KICKASS show. You gotta go see for yourself!

Obviously you are not a Seger fan – which I always find funny when someone writes comments such as yours. While not as popular as his peers? Seger has over 50 million in sales – the # 1 selling catalog release of the decade in his first Greatest Hits. He has released a second Greatest Hits without repeating a single song. His last tour in 2006 played to sold out shows everywhere and rave reviews. I suggest you go to the show – and leave your opinion at the door – just follow the crowds lead. You'll be surprised. You can keep Springsteen – I'll take Seger anyday!!
