Shania Twain was recently inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame at the Juno Awards, which celebrates the work of Canadian music acts. They gave us Neil Young, so our neighbors to the north will always have our musical respect.
But they also gave us Twain (Shania, not Mark), and if you’re a fan, we’ve got good news. According to Yahoo!, she’s prepping a new album and plans to tour in support of it sometime in the future.
This may come as a surprise to some, seeing as Twain hasn’t exactly been prolific as of late. Her last “album” was a 2004 greatest hits collection with a mere three new tracks, followed by a single on the “Desperate Housewives” soundtrack in 2005.
We should mention that over the past few years, she’s made this kind of announcement before; this might be another instance in which fans shouldn’t get their hopes up.
Then again, it would make sense for her comeback to come around now. We’re not crazy about her country-pop–it isn’t substantial or memorable–but with stars like Taylor Swift bringing the genre to a young audience, Twain could be more popular than ever if she releases a new album. It seems like the smart thing to do.
Would you listen to a new Shania Twain album?
