Soundgarden Announce Summer Reunion Tour
By Jeffrey Hyatt
Reunited and it feels so good. After a 13-year break from the road, Soundgarden will finally tour again again this summer. Billboard.com reports that the reunited grunge rockers have revealed the first four dates of its upcoming U.S. tour, which sends the band to Toronto, Philadelphia, Denver and Los Angeles starting this July.
More tour dates are expected to be announced soon, thankfully.
Hard to believe but this summer commences Soundgarden’s first official tour since 1997. The band reunited last year after more than a decade apart.
The back-in-action Soundgarden played a hyped, one-off show at Seattle’s Showbox at the Market last April, which was followed by a headline appearance at Lollapalooza in August – read the review here. But even last year rumors were flying that the band would eventually put together a full-scale tour. And here we are!
Soundgarden recently released a retrospective entitled Telephantasm and their first-ever live album, Live on I-5, recorded during their 1996 West Coast tour.
The band (Matt Cameron, Chris Cornell, Ben Shepherd and Kim Thayil) recently confirmed that they are back in the studio, in Seattle, putting together what will be the first new Soundgarden album in over 15 years. The last album was 1996′s Down on the Upside.
“We’re pretty far into our record now,” Cornell told Billboard.com last month.
“I don’t really know how to describe it musically, because typically with Soundgarden… every time we write a song we always take it for what it is and try to make it the most it can be. It’s very diverse, I can tell you that.”
Cornell still has his solo tour to complete before Soundgarden hits the road this summer.
Tickets for the four dates will go on pre-sale next Monday (Apr. 18), with the general sale arriving Apr. 22-23.
