Zola Jesus: BeatCrave Fav

Haunting vocals, varied but hypnotic rhythms, and a most-anything-but-overt-pop approach to experimental rock is one way to sum up Russian-American singer-songwriter Zola Jesus‘ music style. Also known by her given name, Nika Roza Danilova, the ultra ambient artist has frequently played and worked with other acts including Former Ghosts and Rory Kane (of Nika+Rory) since coming on the scene in 2006. Also, for those who draw similarities to another eye- and ear-turner in the music world, Fever Ray, consider her having been her opening act on her respective tour of Europe last year. It seems she’s way ahead of us in the regard of comparison and inspiration, probably just as much as it seems that she’s down for having us along for the ride. Having already released three EPs to date and currently on a summer tour across the pond – with many dates to follow up until November of this year – we’ll be seeing/hearing a lot of her for the foreseeable future.
