Waking Lights: BeatCrave Fav
By Laura AguirreSince their inception, five or so years ago, Waking Lights has been working hard to create an original sound. And while listening to their latest self-titled EP, one could say they’ve achieved that. Their sound is contagious. A lot of bands are sounding the same right now and have been for a while. Many independent bands are going for this melancholy sound, with high-pitched vocals at the forefront, but the big question is, who’s actually pulling it off? Waking Lights did the smart thing by taking the time to develop a sound that would resonate with them. Although most of these youngsters have music degrees, they agree that college can only teach you so much. One thing they did learn was the harsh reality of the music industry, that the opportunities to make money were very few. Now, the New Jersey natives are working hard to sustain themselves independent from a record company. They want to make music without any boundaries, and hopefully they’re able to do that because they’re making good music. Check out the Waking Lights in our in our BeatCrave Fav series below!
