madonna Madonna To Perform Super Bowl XLVI Halftime Show

Ugggghhhhh.  After dazzling us last year with a mind-meltingly bad performance by the Black Eyed Peas, “the NFL has reportedly locked down Madonna to perform at the Super Bowl XLVI Halftime Show in February,” according to SB Nation (via Billboard).  Which is awesome for fans of hyper-toned and muscular zombies who lip-synch, dance, and speak in false British accents as part of a wildly ego maniacal bid to give herself a false sense of aristocracy.

“Sources close to the event tell the sports blog that the Material Girl will be front and center Feb. 5 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis,” which actually doesn’t speak well about how Madge is viewed these days—after the Janet Jackson debacle in 2004, subsequent performers have been considered “safe” classic rockers (Paul McCartney, the Rolling Stones, Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, and the Who), “safe” artists who are superficially “edgy” (Prince), and “safe” really, really crappy artists who suck more than any other band has ever sucked before (Black Eyed Peas), with the implication that the once-dangerous Madonna is now considered safe for mainstream America to watch while gorging themselves on Doritos and Pepsi.

Keep in mind that “the NFL has not confirmed, nor has Madonna’s spokesperson responded to requests for comment,” so there’s a chance that this could all change, and we could avoid seeing the Walking Death that is Madonna dance and wheeze during halftime.
