Rubblebucket: BeatCrave Fav

Brooklyn-based band Rubblebucket is led by saxophone-player Kalmia Traver and trumpet-player Alex Troth. The two formed the eight-piece band after meeting at an art opening in an old milk bottling plant in Burlington, Vermont. They shared a vision that featured the horn section as the lead, so it’s no surprise their pop-friendly tunes are chock-full of atypical arrangements and have a unique hyperactive jazz-quality. Their use of unconventional instruments, including n’goni, juno, moog, woodblocks, and such combined with the trumpet, sax, and trombone is reminiscent of that gorgeous big band sound with a crazy twist. There’s no denying the intensity and skill they have as musicians, but every song is playful. Their videos display this sort of playfulness as a comprehensive personality for the band.
