Fun.‘s “We Are Young” featuring newcomer R&B singer Janelle has topped the Billboard Hot 100 this week, making them the first rock band in a decade to debut at No. 1 on the charts. The song knocked Kelly Clarkson‘s “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You” to No. 2. The last time a rock band hit No. 1 on their very first try was back in 2001 with Nickelback‘s “How You Remind Me”.

Until this week, no rock group had lead the charts at all since Coldplay‘s “Vida La Vida” in June of 2008.

But “We Are Young” didn’t become popular overnight. The track received a lot of help from both TV and the radio. Currently the song is featured in a much-played Chevrolet Sonic ad that played during the Super Bowl and was also covered in an episode of “Glee“.

The “Glee”-cover of “We Are Young” has also sold plenty, approximately 360,000 download since the the airing of the episode on December 6, 2012.
