Lana Del Rey has just released the music video for her single “National Anthem” featuring A$AP Rocky. Together they pull a Quentin Tarantino and rewrite history. The songstress plays both Marilyn Monroe and Jackie Kennedy, while the rapper fills in as John F. Kennedy. Check out the video below.

Directed by Anthony Mandler, “National Anthem” starts off with the infamous time Marilyn Monroe sang “Happy Birthday” to the president. Del Rey does well in the role and sings the song with a high-pitch baby voice. But the Marilyn bit is brief. The clip then segues into a series of Del Rey-style vignettes, blurry and sepia toned. All show bits of a lavish and happy life between the famous couple (JFK and Jackie Kennedy) up until the president is shot. At the end, a heartbroken Del Rey gives a sad monologue.

Technically, the video is well shot, containing Del Rey’s classic style of what looks to be found footage. It’s sort of similar to her previous videos “Video Games,” “Blue Jeans,” and “Carmen.” But there’s also a solid and somewhat creative storyline that’s different from her other work. No doubt it’ll get people talking.
