Since last May, rumors have been circulating that American Idol host Jennifer Lopez has simply been “just too busy” to continue her duties on American Idol of sitting down and liking/ not liking people singing songs in front of TV cameras.  Those rumors flared again today due to comments Lopez made during an interview; meanwhile, the Earth continued to spin in its orbit around the sun, seemingly unaffected by the news of Lopez’s possible departure.  Go figure.

Lopez was very quick to refute the rumors last May, quickly stating that “there’s no truth to reports that say I’m definitely leaving Idol. All I said was I haven’t decided what I am doing next year,” which was a very carefully-worded statement that did not specify that she wasn’t leaving the show, either.

Then, during a recent interview on the Today show, Lopez spoke again of her “journey” of being paid to listen to people create melodies out of vibrating their vocal cords while she sits behind a desk and stares, listens, and speaks out loud.

“It’s been on my mind a lot, as you can imagine,” Lopez announced to world. “You know, I signed on to American Idol to do one year and I wound up doing the two years. And now it’s like, ‘Ok, do we continue on this journey?”‘  A chorus of crickets blanketed the deafening silence that was the world’s response to Lopez’s question, as the singer/actress stated that she has been forced to put several projects on hold in order to maintain her place on Idol.

“At the end of the day, whichever way, it’s a heartbreaking decision if I’m going to have to go,” Lopez went on to state, appearing to fundamentally misunderstand the term ‘heartbreaking.”
