Fans of over the hill rockers, or just rock ‘n roll in general, have reason to (probably) rejoice today—the Rolling Stones are recording new material.  This is great because, hey, it’s the Stones; possibly not so great because, hey, it’s the Stones in 2012.  Either way, it appears the band was recording new material in Paris last week.  Read on for more.

Rolling Stone, appropriately, has it that the band was photographed leaving an unknown recording studio on August 21, and that two days later, Mick Jagger was tweeting a photo of himself in a recording studio.  In the picture, as RS notes, Jagger is surrounded by Fender amps, Telecasters, Stratocasters and several harmonicas.  Jagger went on to write that he “had fun in the Paris studio this week!”

So, are the Stones planning a new record?  A new single?  A tour?  Something is certainly happening—last week, the band posted an image of animalistic eyes on their Facebook page with a free uView app that played the band’s classic hit “Start Me Up” (with no further explanation of what the app will do in the future).  Also, the band met earlier this year for rehearsal; the gigs were filmed for an upcoming HBO doc about the band’s 50th anniversary.

Jagger has even gone so far as to recently state that “you will definitely be seeing us all together soon. It’s been great fun being back together and there are a lot of memories in here. I can’t believe it’s been 50 years. We’ve been hanging out together, seeing quite a bit of each other and we want to do some gigs.”
