This week, Dave Grohl confirmed the rumors about the Foo Fighters‘ split. The band is going on hiatus for an unspecified amount of time. The rumors first started when Grohl mentioned, while playing onstage at the Global Citizen Festival, that he didn’t know when they would be playing live again. Also, R.E.M.‘s former guitarist Peter Buck released his first solo album today. And Adele‘s Skyfall theme song hit the web. You can listen to the tune below.
- The Smiths Aren’t Reuniting: The Smiths are not getting back together. Earlier this week there were some rumors that the band might be reuniting, and that Coachella had even offered to go vegetarian that weekend if they did. But a publicist for Morrissey said, “The Smiths are never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever going to reunite – ever.” That probably meant they are never getting back together, right? - Peter Buck Releases Solo Album: For years, former R.E.M. guitarist Peter Buck said that he would never make a solo record, but something must’ve changed (or clicked) because he announced the release of his first solo album, titled 95 percent, earlier this week. The record actually debuts today through Mississippi Records and will only be available as a limited-edition pressing of 2,000 vinyl copies. Source: Rolling Stone
- Dave Grohl Announces Foo Fighters Hiatus: Perhaps you’ve heard rumors that the Foo Fighters were going to breakup after a comment Dave Grohl made at the Global Citizen Festival. Grohl sort-of confirmed those rumors when he announced that the band was going on hiatus for an unspecified amount of time. Grohl wrote on the band’s Facebook page that he was not sure when the Foo Fighters were going to play again. “It’s feels strange to say that,” he said, “But it’s a good thing for all of us to go away for a while.” He kept mentioning that he would never not want to be a part of that band, but that he’s focusing his energy on finishing up his Sound City documentary film and album. - Adele’s Skyfall Theme Song: Adele’s James Bond theme song hit the web earlier this week. The tune is a soulful throwback to old Bond classics. The singer wrote the track with songwriter Paul Epsworth and recorded it with a 77-piece orchestra at Abbey Road Studios in London. Listen to the track below:
