Beyonce has decided that she’s too busy to star in Clint Eastwood‘s remake of A Star Is Born. Previously, the famed singer postponed production due to her unexpected pregnancy, but now she’s completely pulling the cord and dropping out.
Variety reports that B’s schedule has become too complicated, preventing her from playing the role Barbra Streisand played in the 1976 version. She would have played a young performer who falls in love with an older star. Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Cruise, Christian Bale, Johnny Depp and Bradley Cooper have all been approached by Eastwood to fill in the male lead, but no one had committed yet.
The film was expected to start production last year, but was delayed due to Beyonce’s pregnancy with hip-hop rapper Jay-Z. Eastwood also got busy with Trouble With The Curve, which can be seen in theaters now.
Variety also mentioned that now that Beyonce is off the project, Eastwood might be looking to replace her with another singer, jazz musician Esperanza Spalding, who won the Grammy for Best New Artist in 2011. But that won’t happen until a male star is cast.
Spalding is a surprising choice. She’s a talented musician, but also hasn’t acted in anything that we know of. Beyonce’s been in a number of movies, but it’ll be hard for a first-timer like Spalding to carry an Eastwood production.
What do you think? Are you disappointed Beyonce dropped out?
