Anyone following music news of late knows that one thing you never, ever do is drive through the border patrol checkpoint in Sierra Blanca, Texas. Why? Because the border patrol officers there are notorious for stopping, searching and booking people (especially touring musicians) who pass through with narcotics. In the past, Willie Nelson, Snoop Dogg, and Armie Hammer have all been busted while passing through. Fiona Apple was even recently booked for marijuana possession there. So it’s somewhat confounding that rapper Nelly’s tour bus would pass try going through…with heroin and a loaded gun.
(Although, it’s even more confounding that Nelly somehow still tours)
Apparently, Texas police officers detained the rapper on Wednesday night, as they found a loaded .45-caliber handgun, 10 pounds of marijuana, and .64 ounces of heroin on Nelly’s bus, according to Rolling Stone. The bus had been pulled over at the infamous checkpoint “when a police dog detected the presence of drugs on the bus,” at which point Nelly and six other passengers were detained during the search.
Later, one of the passengers, Brian Keith Jones, revealed to investigating officers that the gun and drugs were his, and Nelly and the remainder of the bus’ passengers were released.
No word yet from Nelly or his representatives as to whether or not the rapper knew drugs and a gun were on the bus, nor as to how Nelly is still touring in the 21st century.
What do you think of the Nelly news?
