News Roundup: 50 Cent Says ‘Detox’ Might Only Be An EP, Rolling Stones Sell Out London Shows, And MoreBy Laura Aguirre
This week, while promoting his new line of headphones, 50 Cent told a French press outlet that Dr. Dre‘s often-delayed album Detox might not be an album after all. He’s thinking it’s just an EP with only a few songs on it. Also, tickets for The Rolling Stones‘ London shows went on sale this morning and sold out in seven minutes. And The Local Natives announced the release date of their forthcoming record Hummingbird. All that and more below.
- Local Natives Set Release Date For Next Album: The Local Natives announced that they will be releasing their sophomore album, Hummingbird, on January 28, 2013. The record was produced by the band and The National‘s Aaron Dessner. Singer-keyboardist Kelcey Ayer told Pitchfork that Hummingbird is “a heavier record for us…We got a lot deeper on this album. Gorilla Manor is a little light on the surface.”Source: NME
- Rolling Stones’ London Shows Sell Out: And just like that the Rolling Stones sold out their November shows at London’s O2 Arena. It didn’t take long. Many sources are saying that the tickets went in less than seven minutes, despite the high ticket prices – cheapest were around $152. There’s a lot of angry fans right now, and they’re using Twitter to take out their anger. Many are cursing Ticketmaster… which is nothing new. Source: Rolling Stone
- Black Friday Record Store Day: Thanksgiving is just around the corner, which means Black Friday is also nearby. This year’s Black Friday Record Store Day will feature releases from Nirvana, Bob Dylan, Band of Horses, The Velvet Underground and The Fat Boys. If you’re willing to brave the insane lines and people, go to Record Store Day’s website to check out the entire list of releases and participating stores. Source: A.V. Club
- 50 Cent Says Dr. Dre’s Detox Might Be An EP: Like the rest of us, 50 Cent isn’t sure about Dr. Dre’s Detox. The mysterious album has been delayed since the mid-2000s. In a recent French interview, the rapper said that the record might only be an EP, with five or six tracks. “I don’t know if he’s even excited to do it now.” 50 Cent said that the last time he was in Los Angeles, Dre was in the studio working on something else. Check out the full interview below (he starts talking about Dr. Dre around the 7:25 mark):
