Deerhunter and Atlas Sound‘s Bradford Cox will be making his big screen debut in an upcoming AIDS drama titled The Dallas Buyers Club. But that’s not all. The frontman will be playing Jared Leto‘s lover, a cross-dresser who is drying of AIDS. Heavy.
The Hollywood Reporter announced that Cox would be joining the Jean-Marc Vallee-helmed movie, which is based on the true story of Ron Woodroof, a Texas electrician diagnosed with AIDS who set out to find alternative medicine to save himself. The film stars Matthew McConaughey in the title role, and will also feature Jennifer Garner, Griffin Dunne and Denis O’Hare.
Leto is no stranger to acting. He’s worked on a number of movies and TV shows before. He recently opened up to ET about his role as a transsexual living with HIV. He told the site that he waxed his entire body, including his eyebrows, all for the role.
Cox, on the other hand, will have to get some pointers from his co-star since this film will be his first. All we know about Cox’s character is that he’ll also be playing someone with AIDS. And by the sound of this movie, it’s going to be pretty depressing.
There’s no release date for the film yet, but it’s expected to hit theaters next year. Shooting is currently taking place in New Orleans.
