Beyonce is adding documentary director to her resume. Last month HBO announced that the singer/actress would be the focus (and director) of a new documentary that is set to air on HBO next year. Now we have the very first teaser trailer. Check it out below.

Back in August, The LA Times first reported that Beyonce and her representatives were shopping a film about the singer’s life and career to studios around Hollywood. Beyonce decided to set the nonfiction film up at HBO. She said that the network has a history of “pushing every boundary with class and authenticity,” and that some of her favorite TV shows air on HBO.

“I am excited that my film will be part of [HBO's] bold programming. This film was so personal to me, it has to have the right home.”

The documentary will be a mix of concert footage with a confessional interview. There will also be some personal footage that was taken from Beyonce’s laptop. In the film, Beyonce reflects on the realities of being a famous celebrity, the peace she finds onstage and her journey to motherhood. The film will also shed some light on the singer’s childhood and include vintage homemade movie footage.

HBO president Michael Lombardo said the following about Beyonce:

“Everybody knows Beyoncé’s music, but few know Beyoncé the person – Along with electrifying footage of Beyoncé onstage, this unique special looks beyond the glamour to reveal a vibrant, vulnerable, unforgettable woman.”

In the teaser trailer, Beyonce mentions that she always battles with how much to reveal about herself. There’s also a montage of moments of the singer onstage and as a child.

The documentary is set to air on HBO on February 16, 2013. Here’s the clip.
