Too much time has passed since the Yeah Yeah Yeahs released their last record. Thankfully, the band just announced that they are nearly done recording their fourth album, which they plan to release early next year.

For most of 2012, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs have kept a low profile. But lately they’ve been up and about, performing at benefits and signing up for festivals. And that’s all been leading up to this announcement. Yesterday the band posted on Twitter that their next LP will come out sometime in the spring of 2013.

“DNA upgrades, spontaneous evolution and NEW YEAH YEAH YEAHS RECORD ARRIVING SPRING 2013! finally.”

Finally is right. It has been nearly four years since the band’s last record, 2009′s It’s Blitz! The forthcoming album is currently nameless, and not much else is known about it, though there have been some rumors that James Murphy recorded with the band so maybe there’s a song of his in there.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs were one of the many bands that played during the Hurricane Sandy benefit concert earlier this month. The band has also signed up to play at the massive Vive Latino Festival in Mexico City’s Foro Sol stadium next Spring.

Along with the Tweet, Karen O. and Co., released a strange photo of someone wearing some kind of mask, holding a lightsaber. See for yourself:

Are you excited for a new Yeah Yeah Yeahs album?
