Following 12 years of making music, four albums, and being responsible for countless units of black eyeliner and fingernail polish being sold, My Chemical Romance have finally cashed in their chips and have called it quits. But, inexplicably, their fans won’t let them go without a fight.
The band made the announcement via a simple message on their website on Friday:
Being in this band for the past 12 years has been a true blessing. We’ve gotten to go places we never knew we would. We’ve been able to see and experience things we never imagined possible. We’ve shared the stage with people we admire, people we look up to, and best of all, our friends. And now, like all great things, it has come time for it to end. Thanks for all of your support, and for being part of the adventure.

But now, My Chemical Romance fans (dubbed the MCRmy) aren’t letting the band go without a fight. Apparently, New Jersey-area MCRmy members launched a Change.org petition that demands My Chemical Romance say goodbye with a farewell world tour, not a simple blog post:
“They ended so abruptly without saying goodbye to their fans properly, and the MCRmy is upset…They need to do it correctly if they’re going to do it at all.”
The petition initially sought 10,000 supports, which it met. It is now seeking 15,000 supporters, and as of this writing is less than 5000 signatures away. However, it is not clear what having 15,000 signatures will accomplish, since the band can continue to be broken up anyway. But hey, let the emo kids have something, ok?
