Like many other televised awards ceremony, the Grammys too are often a huge disappointment. Not necessarily because the performances are bad, but because those artists who deserve to win, don’t. This year, hip-hop’s very best, rapper Kendrick Lamar, was robbed of numerous awards, but the most upsetting of his losses was the Grammy for Rap Album of the Year, which went to Macklemore and Ryan Lewis.

Since, Macklemore has publicly apologized for accepting the award (though he hasn’t given up the Grammy so it’s kind of hard to take his apology seriously). The Seattle rapper posted a picture of his text to Lamar which said, “I robbed you…Congrats on this year and your music. Appreciate you as an artist and as a friend. Much love.”

Now, Lamar has given his take on Macklemore’s win and being snubbed by the Grammy’s. In an interview with XXL, Lamar said:

“It’s well deserved. [Macklemore] did what he did, man… He went out there and hustled and grinded. Everything happens for a reason; the universe comes back around, that’s how it go.”

Lamar is obviously being a great sport about the whole thing. But for those of us who are huge fans of him, this isn’t easily forgotten. Macklemore’s apology wasn’t all that genuine, especially when you consider that he wanted everyone to know that he knew Lamar deserved the award. Still, he has to live with the fact that his Grammy really should’ve gone to someone else, and that’s horrible enough.

Although Lamar didn’t end up winning anything on Sunday, he was still a big winner for his passionate performance with another underrated band – Imagine Dragons. If for some reason you missed the performance, here it is. Enjoy!
