Rapper DMX will face off against George Zimmerman in the ring for a Celebrity Boxing Match in March. The New York-born MC was selected from a wide variety of applicants to brawl Zimmerman, who was acquitted for second-degree murder and manslaughter for shooting Trayvon Martin. Floyd Mayweather Sr. will referee the match.

DMX says he will be fighting for “every black person who has been done wrong in the system.” A spokes person for DMX said that he promises to “beat his ass.”

Zimmerman, who does boxing as a hobby, was the one who came up with the idea for this brawl. And according to various sources he will donate his earnings to charity. Many celebrities, like rapper The Game, wanted to fight Zimmerman, but in the end Damon Feldman, Owner of Celebrity Boxing, ended up picking the player.

“He didn’t chose them, we had over 15,000 emails…everybody was putting their hat in there trying to fight him and basically it was getting overwhelming with the emails and we had to make a decision… Well, you know there’s a lot of celebrities that wanted a good brawl, it’s very controversial, celebrity boxing is.”

The day of the fight will be March 15. While some may be glad that Zimmerman might come out of this with a few broken ribs and some black eyes, not everyone is happy about this brawl. A petition has been launched on calling for the planned boxing event to be cancelled.
