OutKast is heading to Drake‘s hometown of Toronto. The reunited rap duo has been announced as one of the headliners of Drake’s annual OVO Music Festival. The two-day concert will take place at Toronto’s Molson Canadian Amphitheatre. Outkast will headline on August 3rd, while Drake will close the event on August 4th. Tickets go on sale February 21st.
As noted by Rolling Stone, the festival poster only hints at “special guests” for the event instead of listing specific artists. In the past, Drake has managed to bring together an exciting group of rappers. Last year’s lineup included artists like Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Ma$e, Diddy, members of TLC, Big Sean, the Weeknd and A$AP Rocky. Previous rappers also include Nicki Minaj, Snoop Dogg and Rick Ross.
In 2013, Drake was involved in a feud with West, but the two decided to end their petty competitive fight for the event. Drake told MTV that he thought “[he] and Kanye [had] wanted to express [their] respect for each other for a long time [but] sometimes rap, the business, the competitiveness and just the heart behind it forces you to not talk to the people you quietly admire.”
Drake has another “feud” going this year with Macklemore. The Canadian MC publicly called out the Grammy winner after Macklemore publicized the apology text he sent to Kendrick Lamar after the winning the Grammy for Best Rap Album. In Drake’s opinion, the apology was “cheap” and “not genuine.”
As for OutKast, they are set to appear at Coachella Music Fest in April as well as other festivals throughout 2014.
What do you think?
The Atlanta hip-hop group, which released their last album, Idlewild, in 2006, discussed several reunion appearances throughout 2014 that could extend to several festival performances. Coachella, which opens on April 11th in Indio, Calif., is the first stop, according to multiple reports.
