The Rolling Stones are postponing their tour of Australia and New Zealand in light of L’Wren Scott‘s death. Scott, a talented fashion designer, was also the longtime girlfriend of Mick Jagger, and was found dead in her New York City apartment yesterday in an apparent suicide.
The band expressed their feelings toward Scott’s death in a statement saying:
“The Rolling Stone are deeply sorry and disappointment to announce the postponement of the rest of their 14 On Fire tour of Australia and New Zealand following the death of L’Wren Scott. Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood wish to thank all of their fans for their support at this difficult time and hope that they will fully understand the reason for this announcement. The Rolling Stones are planning to rescheduled these postponed shows at a later date.”
Jagger also released his own statement concerning the death of his girlfriend. He mentioned that he was “struggling to understand how [his] lover and best friend could end her life in this tragic was.” He added, “We spend many wonderful years together and had made a great life for ourselves. She had a great presence and her talent was much admired, not least by me. I have been touched by the tributes people have paid to her, and also the personal messages of support that I have received.”
Scott was a fashion designer and former model. According to the LA Times, Scott designed a number of dresses for actresses like Nicole Kidman and Christina Hendricks, and also First Lady Michelle Obama. Scott was found dead by her assistant in her NYC apartment. There have been some reports that say she was found hanging, but police only went as far as to mention that there was no criminal activity.
