Just in case you were thinking to yourself recently, “my, I sure could use an album of unreleased Michael Jackson material that was neither completed by the artist nor deemed suitable for release by his record label prior to his death,” well, guess what, 2014 is gonna be your year.
Why’s that, you may be asking? Well, another album in the inevitable wave of “hey, the artist may be dead, be we still have a bottom line and the bottom of a barrel to scrape” material released in the wake of Michael Jackson’s death is now upon us: Xscape. Xscape is the “new” Michael Jackson album, for which Sony/Epic compiled eight unreleased Jackson tracks and gave them new production from such modern knob-turners as Timbalend and Rodney Jerkins. The label has called this an effort to “add a fresh, contemporary sound that retains Jackson’s essence and integrity.” Translation: money. It’s to make money.
Xscape will be available for pre-order on April 1 via iTunes, and is set for an official release on May 13.
