If you’re going to the film portion of SXSW this year, you may just get to see the new vampire flick that stars rock legends Alice Cooper, Iggy Pop, Henry Rollins (and Moby). The name of the film is blatantly Suck, as it takes on the the attitude of heavy rock and roll and then the world of vampires which so many teens and have fallen in love with thanks to films and TV shows such as Twilight and True Blood. Other actors include Malcolm McDowell and Dave Foley (of Kids in the Hall) among other unlikely cast members.

This will be the sophomore release for director Rob Stefaniuk and although we’re wondering how in the world he managed to grab such a major cast, we’re a bit more curious about how these musicians will do with comedic timing on their part.

She Keeps Bees: BeatCrave Fav

She Keeps Bees isn’t a new name to us at BeatCrave. We were lucky enough to interview the duo for our Know Your NYC Bands series back in 2009, but that doesn’t mean we can’t continue to share the wealth. As you may have noticed, She Keeps Bees is not just a she but a two-person band that consists of Jessica Larrabee and Andy LaPlant.

The duo first caught our attention when they first released “Gimme” as a single. There’s something about the smokey vocals Larrabee provides on that song when she sings the lyrics, “Work me like my back ain’t got no bone.” We’ve mentioned that before but it’s great lines like that and simple guitar chords that puts She Keeps Bees in the same category as the Black Keys. There is a whole lot of soul that makes a simple song sound much bigger than the chords written down on paper. Get to know She Keeps Bees a bit more in our BeatCrave Fav series below!

New Kid Cudi Ratatat MGMT Music Video Pursuit of Happiness New Kid Cudi, Ratatat, MGMT Music Video: Pursuit of Happiness

Kanye West’s latest protege, Kid Cudi, has made a name for himself over the past year and for someone who runs in West’s circle of friends, he seems pretty chill. We liked him even more when he teamed up with electronic rock duo Ratatat and Brooklyn hipster duo, MGMT for the song, “Pursuit of Happiness.” However, the video for the song was lackluster for such a great collaboration. We’re sure Drake fans were happy to see him popping champagne bottles with Kid Cudi in slow motion, but it came off as just an other stereotyped video for the hip hop genre.

Yeasayer Music Video: O.N.E.

Yeasayer Music Video O.N.E. Yeasayer Music Video: O.N.E.

Brooklynites, Yeasayer, are back with a new video for their track, “O.N.E.” off of their latest album, Odd Blood. They’ve snagged the same director used for NSWF-ish and incredibly trippy, “Ambling Alp,” and once again it’s complete eye candy during every second. The previous video may have involved face massaging and body parts but with “O.N.E.’ using a dance club as its setting the visuals are expected to be a bit more dynamic and crazier to match the tone of the song.

Along with Washed Out and Toro Y Moi, one of our other favorite chillwave artists is Neon Indian. Initially just a moniker for the music Vega’s Alan Polomo songs that didn’t quite fit wit his band, Neon Indian has now become a critically acclaimed artist by people such as Spin, Rolling Stone, and Gorilla vs. Bear for the album, Psychic Chasms.

Now Polomo’s got some fresh material for our listening pleasure and it fits right into the sounds of the 80s and electronica we love so much from him as Neon Indian. The new song, titled “Sleep Paralysist” which was co-produced by Grizzly Bear’s Chris Taylor can be heard and downloaded after the jump!
