Another year has gone by and and another batch of unnecessary awards shows have also occurred to capitalize on the teen market who ave no clue the “M” in MTV used to stand for Music Television. Honing in on reality shows such as the filthy Jersey Shore and getting the best B-list celebrity talk show host to talk smack about A-list celebrities (via Chelsea Handler) basically sums up our vapid generation’s interest last night.
But hey, we know some of you were tuned in for the music. That is, whatever is left to be considered music. We’ve got every single VMA performance for you after the jump – but first – let’s take a moment of silence to bow our heads in shame in regards to Justin Bieber winning Best New Artist…

Jay-Z and Eminem have reunited once again. They said they were going to do it in a big way and that’s exactly what they last night. To kick off their “Home to Home” tour – a few select dates where they will perform four concerts together – they took over Detroit’s Comerica Park last night with guest appearances. According to Hip-Hop Wired, guests from the first show in Detroit included Memphis Bleek, Young Jeezy, 50 Cent and G-Unit. We’ve got some footage of the grand opening night below courtesy of RapRadar (via Hip-Hop Wired).

Last week, Cee-Lo Green had a viral hit with his simple text-based video for his latest single, “Fuck You.” Without any warning, the video appeared on his YouTube channel and it quickly received over 4 million hits! Well now, you can watch the official music video. Although the storyline is pretty much basic – lover gets jilted by an ex-lover – the three stages of heartbreak in this video do song great justice. Check it out below! We’ve got the new official video as well as the old one.

Well, little monsters. Your pop queen of inappropriateness is still making sure all her freaks and outsiders get the love they deserve. Lady Gaga performed another new and unreleased song (the first being “You and I”) titled “Living on the Radio” last night during her St. Paul Minnesota show and it sounds pretty decent. I say that because there’s an actual touch of honesty to this song and some of us who are fed up with her antics on stage, in music videos and in interviews can take this as one more chance to hear the pop star out.

We first heard R&B singer Aaliyah on the radio when she then released what is now a classic jam titled “Back and Forth.” She experienced her first moment in the spotlight when she got the chance to sing by Gladys Knight’s side courtesy of her uncle (who was then married to Knight). However, she also earned her first record deal with Jive when she was only 12. Soon after, the creepy (and still creepy) R. Kelly became her mentor and helped her spawn hits such as “Age Ain’t Nothing but a Number” but she soon outgrew the tough girl image and focused on being a successful attractive woman in the business.
With the help of new mentors such as Timbaland and Missy Elliot, she started churning out a new sound in songs such as “If Your Girl Only Knew” and “One In a Million.” However, it was on her third and very last album, that she grew up. Her vocals chops were showcased better and the song content had finally matured. Yet, she wouldn’t be able to fully promote the album after the tragic plane crash that ended her life.

West is known for lavish, grand, fancy debuts. He’s got to back that ego up with some wow factor when he goes live. For instance, he premiered 808s and Hearbtreak‘s “Love Lockdown” at the MTV Movie Awards in a style only he could pull it off in. He’s coming out with a new album, which was titled Good Ass Job – until now. The rapper recently and officially joined Twitter and announced that he’s nixed the name and is currently “bouncing a couple of titles around now.”
So we don’t know the album name anymore but we do know this. Kanye took it down a notch this time around when he premiered some of the new material live for the first time. There weren’t any flashing lights. It wasn’t a live broadcast. It was very intimate… and it was at the Facebook office?

Happy Eclipse day, you Twi-hards! In celebration of all your mass gatherings at every other movie theater for the worldwide release of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse today, we are happy to bring you a new music video for one of the songs off of the soundtrack. We can say with confidence that the soundtrack will definitely trump the film itself, however…. it’s not about us today. It’s about you girls (and boys) who identify with Bella Swan’s teen angst and emotional roller coaster of love between a werewolf and a vampire. It’s about all you people who are putting money into the pockets of musicians like Metric!

Last night’s BET Awards was filled with a ton of comeback performances which always make for a more exciting award show, even if the host is the lovely Queen Latifah. We must say even with all the unnecessary hoopla that was surrounding Justin Beiber this season, they booked some pretty great artists to show us what they got right now.
Kanye West triumphantly opened the show up with his new track, “Power,” which had him standing on top of a ridiculously tall mountain in the beginning. He’s always overcompensating for something but hey, at least, he didn’t grab any mics from teenagers onstage this time. (Although… it would have been fun to watch him make Justin Beiber and all his Beliebers cry.)
