One of the biggest splashes made over the past two weekends of the 2012 Coachella music festival was the appearance of the Tupac Shakur hologram, which allowed Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg to perform with the deceased rapper. This lead to rampant speculation that Tupac would be going on tour, something that Dr. Dre has quickly denied… then said “we’ll see.”
We don’t know about you, but we are tickled that Spring appears to have made up its mind about staying or going this week. Flaw-free sunny days; comfortable nights; flowers and birds and SQUIRREL — oh, my? It’d normally go without saying that such an uplift in weather and mood makes us want to share the love with everyone, but like most other sentiments, we’ve gone and said it. And hopefully our following round-up will inspire you to spread the word about a local act that (a) you’re already excited about or (b) wouldn’t have heard about otherwise. Levon helm, drummer of the The Band and solo vocalist, is losing his long battle with cancer. On Saturday, his former bandmate Robbie Robertson offered his prayers and love for Helm, hinting that there might be something really bad going on. Yesterday, Helm’s family confirmed that he’s in his final stages of cancer.
And here’s another festival lineup for you folks: Stevie Wonder, Metallica, Neil Young & Crazy Horse and the Foo Fighters are set to headline the fifth annual Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival in San Francisco’s Gold Gate Park. Find out who else will performing below.
Coachella is a time and place for all sorts of desert wackiness to go down—especially with Snoop Dogg in attendance (just check out his smoke-able book that was released at the fest). That said, one moment during the headlining Dr. Dre and Snoop performance on Sunday night crossed them realm from wacky and dovetailed into just plain strange, if not tacky and/or kind of offensive.

Another day, another example of what an insufferable egoist Axl Rose can be. The legendarily contentious frontman of Guns N’ Roses (as well as the modern Guns N’ Roses, which is basically GNR in name only) publicly declared today that he is refusing to attend the 2012 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony for Guns N’ Roses due to the fact that he simply cannot get along with his former bandmates.
