The Winter Olympics have taken over NBC and most of people’s televisions this season. Whether they’re fans of snowboarding or figure skating, everyone is seeing how much they can watch before they have to leave the house to resume normal life. However, just because NBC has put all their regular programs on hold for the Olympics, it doesn’t mean it’s the only thing viewers are tuning into.

American Idol went head to head with the Olympics again this week, and it looks like they won in regards to ratings. Perhaps it’s the fact that the Olympics’ live broadcast can be seen on repeat during the late night hours or maybe it’s because everyone can record anything shown on TV these days.

There were a ton of new and young faces that made the cut this time such as Miley Cyrus, Nick Jonas, and Justin Beiber – who even got to sing the opening lines which Lionel Richie sang back in 1985.

The 2010 Olympics will kick off tonight with its opening ceremony where torches will be held, and according to NY Daily News, musicians such as Nelly Furtado and Sarah McLachlan will be performing. Although the Olympics is officially a competition among athletes from all around the world, it’s also a time to celebrate as we come together as one.

So it makes sense that the new video for the re-recording of Quincy Jones, Lionel Richie, and Michael Jackson‘s “We Are The World” will be premiering on NBC during the opening ceremony tonight as well.
