Aretha Franklin may be getting up there in age–she’ll turn 69 tomorrow, March 25–but that hasn’t stopped her from doing what she loves. According to Yahoo!, the singer will be performing a concert in Chicago on May 19. All this after recently recovering from a struggle with pancreatic cancer. Yeah, we’d say she deserves some respect.
Music fans throughout the world have spent the past few weeks worrying over the health of legendary singer Aretha Franklin, whose battle with pancreatic cancer has been in and out of the news since her reported hospital stay. Well, we’re sure she appreciates the fact that people are concerned about her well-being, but according to UsMagazine.com, the singer wants a little privacy when it comes to that issue.

Well thankfully the Queen of Soul is not dead. Rumors hit the web Monday that Franklin had died of pancreatic cancer, with which she had been diagnosed earlier this month. A source close to Franklin told USA Today that she is “home, alive and recovering.”
The eyes of the music world have been on Aretha Franklin in recent weeks. News that she’s been suffering from pancreatic cancer worried many of her fans and those fears only increased when she went in for surgery two weeks ago. Fortunately, Billboard reports that the singer has been released from the hospital and is doing well.
As we have reported numerous times in 2010, Aretha Franklin has not been having a great year. Major health issues have gotten in the way of her performing previously scheduled concerts and now the mysterious illness has been revealed. The Queen of Soul has been diagnosed with cancer.
VH1′s Divas Salute the Troops was packed with sequins and colorful hair on Sunday night. The event was hosted by comedian Kathy Griffith and featured performances by a variety of divas. Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj covered Cyndi Lauper‘s “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.” Paramore‘s Haley Williams performed to an enthusiastic crowd in Camp Arifjan in Kuwait. And the legendary Aretha Franklin (who is recovering from surgery) received a surprise tribute from Sugarland and rapper MC Lyte.

Aretha Franklin underwent surgery yesterday (December 2) in Detroit for reasons that still remain a mystery. However, the 68-year-old Franklin did reveal in a statement that the surgery “was highly successful.”
It hasn’t been a good year for the Queen of Soul. Aretha Franklin broke two ribs earlier in the year and already had to cancel two shows back in August and it looks like the rest of year isn’t looking good for her or fans either. According to On The Red Carpet, Franklin is being forced to cancel shows for the rest of year as she has been suffering from health issues.
Specific details weren’t given this time around in regards to her illness but the fall earlier in the year, which also included some abdominal pain for her, has taken a toll on her enough that she has to cancel two upcoming shows.
