In case you missed anything, here is some news that took place over the weekend!
- Foo Fighters frontman, Dave Grohl made a special appearance to his birth town where he was having a street named after him. The singer was also presented with a key to the city of Warren, Ohio. The city’s Market Alley will be renamed after him. Read about the event and what he treated the fans that showed up to the appearance to. (NME)
- Black Eyed Peas did what no other duo or group has been able to do. They stayed on the top of US Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart for a record 17 weeks in a row (12 weeks with “Boom Boom Pow” and now 5 weeks with “I’ve gotta Feeling“). While we are still mourning the life of a legend and musical icon, here are some of the stories going around in the music world:
- Post-humos Michael Jackson is creating a buzz. This time by dominating the UK charts for both albums and singles. According to NME, he scored the number one album and almost a quarter of entire top 200 single countdown. List of where he lies on the chart for both albums and singles are available. (NME)
- During their headlining set at Glastonbury’s Jazz World Stage, pop superstars Black Eyed Peas paid tribute to the King of Pop, who passed away on June 25th. Of the global icon, band member Will.i.am had kind words: “He was a friend and we’re gonna miss him very much. Thank you very much for all you’ve done, I’m gonna miss you.” More info on their performance is available including a full list of the songs played and why the crowd booed them early in the set. Black Eyed Peas fans can rest easy! The band’s new album titled “The E.N.D” does not signify the END of the group, it actually stands for “The Energy Never Dies”. Of all the artists, and yes there are a lot, coming out with an album this week, the most exciting is Mos Def’s new one. One of the most under-rated hip hop artists of our time, Mos Def is a true lyricist that has not succumbed to mainstream pressure and has stayed authentic even after all these years.
