Black Lips: FYF Fest 2009

After hearing about how these boys can cause quite the trouble, we expected Black Lips to go crazy as the headliner for FYF Fest. However, it wasn’t until toward the end of their set that we really go to see the wild side of this band. We love it when band members stage dive… with their guitars!

Check out the last set of the night below!

Farewell, April… hello, May. Hello, weekend! Check out these shows below:

  • Black Lips | Friday, May 1 | 7:00 pm | $17 | El Rey Theatre, Los Angeles, CA – Map | Flower punk, eh? One listen is all it takes, and you too will be in on what flower-child-meets-rebel-maniac means. The Atlanta-based band beholds a perfect balance of angst and mellow that is neither too much nor too little. Click here for tickets; for more information, call (323) 936-6400.
  • A Rooster for the Masses | Friday, May 1 | 8:00 pm | Arlene’s Grocery, New York, NY – Map | The band also known as AR4TM takes revolutionary feel behind classic rock and the relative bright-and-shiny quality of hard modern rock and combines it in an unexpectedly engaging fusion. For more information, call (212) 995-1719.

LOST in Indie Rock – Which Indie Rockers Would Play Lost Characters

lostmusic09 2 19 LOST in Indie Rock Which Indie Rockers Would Play Lost Characters

Remember in high school when your English teacher would make you write compare and contrast essays?  Well, for some reason I always tried to sneak just a comparison paper by her – I hated writing the contrast part.  Something about how if two things are inherently different, its more fun to find similarities than to point out the obvious differences. I love comparing books to movies, movies to TV shows, apples to oranges (they’re both round) – hell, whatever comes to mind.  This article is aimed at taking my two favorite things in the world and smashing them together: LOST and music.

New Music Video: Black Lips’ “Short Fuse”

Sunday, February 22, 2009 10:00PM - By Seraphina L.

The Black Lips have not allowed any legal mishaps to affect their drive. Their new album, 200 Million Thousand, drops this Tuesday (February 24th) and they’ve got a video to accompany their spanking new single, “Short Fuse.” It kind of reminds me of Saturday morning cartoons on crack, but I guess that’s okay since the video is a extremely literal. Check it out and tell us what you think!

What else does their “Short Fuse” video remind you of?

Black Lips Flee From Indian Police During Tour

Not only did they have to end their latest tour early, but dayum, these boys are in trouble. According to NME, Black Lips were recently obliged to cancel their tour in India because they were forced to escape the country as they were being chased by the police. They were originally scheduled to a seven-date tour there.

Now, we’ve heard numerous stories about one band member being charged with crimes, but an entire band? This is supposedly how it all went down:

POLL: Which 2009 Album Are You Most Excited For?

It’s a new year and that means it’s time for brand new music! Pitchfork has already named Animal Collective’s Meriweather Post Pavillion the first great album of 2009. Does this fact make it hop on top of your list?

Some are highly anticipated because of the wait (Morrissey), some have been hyped up through serious tours (MSTRKRFT), and some are just exciting because you never know which album will include your favorite crass lyric in the future (Lily Allen)!

Take a look at some albums BeatCrave highly anticipates, and let us know what you think!
