Thank God It’s Friday? More like Ticketholders, Get In Front. These are our concert picks for the weekend, and yes, we’re just as antsy as you are to get things started already.
- Nico Stai | Friday, October 16 | 9:00 pm | Free | Ghettogloss Galery, Los Angeles, CA – Map | Cameras, bodies, live shoots – this sounds like it’s going to be all sorts of cool. Whether intentional or otherwise, Nico Stai’s greatly channels a flavor akin to Paul Simon and Michael Stipe of REM that works within his realm of lyrical experimentation. And hell, drinks, music, cameras, et al – if you are want for reason to get out of the house tonight - seriously, look no further. For more information, visit his official MySpace.
- Asobi Seksu | Friday, October 16 | 8:00 pm | Bowery Ballroom, New York, NY – Map | Guitars, dreamy sequences, lots of shoegaze – bet you can’t just have one. This New York based band has what we want in copious amounts. This is to be among the last of their most recent tour dates in the U.S. before they head across the pond for the better part of the rest of the year – Buy Tickets

Queen Latifah, Raekwon, The Roots! We are in for some good quality hip-hop music this week. Queen Latifah goes back to her roots after trying jazz music (which was surprisingly good) for her last album. The Roots, Hip-Hop’s band famed for still using live instrumentals in performances, say their 9th studio album has a positive attitude which focuses on the end of the Bush administration and the beginning of the Obama presidency.
It seems we have run out of good titles for albums. Just a few weeks after Ginuwine released an album titled The Bachelor we have Patrick Wolf using the same name for his new one. At least the English singer-songwriter sounds completely different from the R&B crooner, with his romantic folk/techno-pop sound.
Here are the albums coming out August 11th:

It has only been a few days since our last update but diditleak has reported, through their twitter account, new victims that have had their albums leaked. From punk rockers, Cobra Starship (pictured above) to Grammy nominated rock band Mutemath. Some of the albums (Hot Mess & Let’s Build Something to Break) are set to be released next Tuesday, I wonder if this will help or hurt album sales. We’ll have to wait and see.
Here is a list of albums that have leaked the last few days:

Unfortunately, the news has been really depressing lately. I figured I would get the hard-hitting stuff in first, and follow it up with some things that will pick you up.
- Regarding Jennifer Hudson‘s missing nephew: A body was found in the SUV police were looking for.
- Merl Saunders of the Grateful Dead has passed away.
- Hinder now has a Jagermeister machine in their tour bus. Let the drinking… continue?
- Cobra Starship has remixed Fall Out Boy’s “I Don’t Care“. Do you care?
- Members of Mest have formed The Twilight and the Sound. This kind of makes me wonder if they named their band after the movie to garner attention.
