Up until fairly recently, the Tron universe wasn’t exactly considered “hip.” (If it was, it was only ironically so.) That’s likely to change now that the album of Daft Punk’s score for the film sold 70, 794 units between the period of December 7 and December 12. And that’s just in the United States and Canada. Wow.

This week in music, we got some more soundtrack work, some live performances, and a lot of party albums. Black Eyed Peas bring us another play-by-play of the best weekend of our life, while Daft Punk fall short of their abilities and awe on the Tron soundtrack. No matter what music comes through this week, we got the best and the… not so best to introduce to you:

We were lucky enough to attend KCRW‘s Tron: Legacy soundtrack preview event just a couple of weekends ago. Music Supervisor and KCRW DJ, Jason Bentley, sat down to chat with director, Joseph Kosinski, about his love for electronic music and also preview five different music cues from the score.
Today, KCRW will have the entire event available for streaming on demand when you go to their website. Jason Bentley will also be playing some portions from the event on his show, Morning Becomes Eclectic, this morning at 10 AM PST. For the first time ever, they’ll be airing these exclusive cues for those weren’t able to attend.

Earlier today at Apogee’s Berkeley Street Studios in Santa Monica, CA, KCRW hosted a Tron: Legacy listening party event which featured world renowned DJ Jason Bentley as the host and Tron‘s director Joseph Kosinski as their special guest. For an intimate gathering in a cozy-sized room, the in-depth conversation was quite powerful as the film is expected to be when it hits theaters.
For a little over an hour, we got a brief sense of what it was like behind the scenes in regards to the making of the film’s score as well as Kosinski’s love for electronic music – specifically, Daft Punk. We were also lucky enough to feast our ears on five specific music cues – each played in their entirety – giving us an imaginary glimpse into the world of Tron through our audio senses.

As we shared last night, along with hundreds of others who were there to personally witness it live, Phoenix surprised their fans during their encore by bringing out electronic duo, Daft Punk out on to stage. The crowd went wild, text messages were sent and Twitter was blowing up with the news.
Those of you who were lucky enough to be there last night were either elated or underwhelmed. To each his/her own but if we were there, we would have definitely have been as excited because Daft Punk hasn’t performed live since their Alive tour back in 2007. Also, because we love our readers we were able to find some footage from last night so you can either relive it all again or experience a snippet of it for the first time. Check it out below!

CMJ may be going on in NYC this week for the freshest bands, but if you opted to see a bigger band – say, Phoenix – you may have just witnessed the most surprising and awesome event to get you through your middle of the week slump. French electronic duo, Daft Punk, gave Phoenix fans an extra bonus for paying those prices to get into Madison Square Garden tonight. Even if you didn’t have a friend in NYC texting you like crazy about this magical moment, the entire nation got into a huge tizzy over it on (you guessed it) Twitter.

A tidal wave of buzz has been building around Tron Legacy, the sequel to the classic 1980′s Tron, and the Tron Legacy soundtrack, crafted by house/ electronic music duo Daft Punk. And, in addition to the Tron Legacy soundtrack being the band’s first full-length release since 2005’s Human After All, the mysterious band, known for their leather and helmeted stage garb, Daft Punk have also revolutionized (or Tron-ized), their look for the cameo in the new film, according to InTheMix:

Yesterday, we revealed the new and longer official trailer to Tron: Legacy (from yesterday’s Comic-Con press conference) to remind everyone that new Daft Punk music is coming our way. Well guess what? We can finally listen to some of the real material after all this torturous teasing from snippets in trailers, fake leaks and fake tour dates!
Although the trailer itself for Tron was epic, just wait until you hear six instrumental bits from the score! Yes, they’re available to stream and yes, there are SIX different samples to listen to! Believe us. We’re trying our hardest not to have an internal combustion from geek overload, too!

Comic-Con has begun! The convention which is annually held in San Diego is focused on the comics but each and every franchise in the entertainment industry has dug their heels deep into the event with press conferences, interviews, exclusive previews and more to promote, promote, promote.
