Yuppies, rejoice! According to Entertainment Weekly, despite claiming that he wasn’t going to tour in 2011, pseudo-hippie Dave Matthews has announced that his band will headline several three-day long festivals this summer, bringing along several popular contemporary adult alternative artists with him.
It’s a shame we can’t invest in marijuana, because sales are about to go way up.

Look, I hate Dave Matthews Band fans as much as the next healthy music snob, but at the very most I’d simply call for them to maybe be briefly imprisoned or force their easygoing, jam band loving ears to listen to Metallica’s Master of Puppets on repeat for a week—but I doubt I’d, you know, try to blow them up. And that’s a distinction that is apparently not shared by Lebanese immigrant and would-be terrorist Sami Samir Hassoun, who tried to blow up half a city block of DMB fans who had just seen Dave and company play at Wrigley Field in Chicago on Saturday night.

Last night was the big night for the music industry. The 52nd Grammy Awards were held in Los Angeles’ Staples Center and everyone from Justin Beiber to Jeff Beck showed up for the special event. Also, like usual, they managed to cram in 16 performances into a three hour show.
Although, we have to admit, with the exception of Lady Gaga, Beyonce, The 3-D Michael Jackson tribute, and Mary J. Blige/Andrea Bocelli duet, the show didn’t live up to the hype last night. Whether you tuned in or missed out last night, we’ve got all the performances for you to watch below!

In the end we like to think it’s just about the music, but let’s give a small, golf clap to the winning marketing push behind “Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King,” the new Dave Matthews Band that arrived last week behind a wave promotion that included a live concert show on Hulu.com and a week’s worth of DMB programming on the Fuse channel.
The advertising strategy paid off: “Big Whiskey” opened at No. 1 on the Billboard album chart by a wide margin, selling 424,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Eminem’s latest, “Relapse,” dropped down to No. 2 after two weeks on top.

We have some big news for fans of the Dave Matthews Band. For starters the band will be performing tonight and tomorrow at the famed Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts. Should be quite a party inside the home of the Red Sox. After that the group is playing a concert at New York’s Beacon Theater on June 1st at 9pm. Sure, that’s great if you’re in New York, but what about us not in the Big Apple?

Online video site Hulu will live-stream the Dave Matthews Band performance at the Beacon Theatre in New York on June 1. From the DMB web site:
“We are excited to announce that Dave Matthews Band and Hulu are teaming up to present Hulu’s first-ever live concert stream. Beginning at 9:00 p.m. EST on June 1st, Hulu will bring the intimate Beacon Theatre show to fans for free via a live stream at Hulu.com.”
Following the exclusive live stream, Hulu will allow on-demand access to the show, but even as the Internet becomes the main source for recorded video, its real potential lies in live broadcasts, such as the Beacon Theatre performance. Let’s hope the rest of the music industry also embraces the idea.
