The People’s Choice Awards of 2012 were held last night in Los Angeles, and, in addition to actually handing an award out to Kim Kardashian for “Best Celebrity” (seriously), the awards ceremony further pointed out its obsolescence and pointlessness by doling out best music awards to such illustrious musicians as Maroon 5, Demi Lovato, and, of course, Katy Perry.

Lollapalooza, the music and arts festival conceived by Jane’s Addiction frontman Perry Farrell, will be celebrating its twentieth anniversary this year. The festival itself is still months away–it runs from August 6-8 in Chicago’s Grant Park–but Babble is reporting that a virtual time capsule has been created on the official website to commemorate two decades of musical celebration.
We used to measure popularity in sales, but with the Facebook generation slowly taking over, it seems that “likes” are just as significant as dollars these days. If that’s so, then it’s big news for one star. Forget The Beatles, Madonna or Elvis.

It’s a few months off, but a valid source–The Chicago Tribune–seems to believe we’ve already identified a few artists who will be headlining the Lollapalooza music and arts festival this year. According to the article, none other than the Foo Fighters, Muse and Eminem will be taking the stage between August 5 and 7.
Eminem is partnering with Lipton Brisk Iced Tea for a TV spot that debuts Sunday during the first quarter of Super Bowl XLV between the Green Bay Packers and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Reportedly paid a cool $1 million for appearing as a claymation character, Eminem (aka Marshall Mathers) was provided a heavy dose of creative freedom to help develop the idea and the script for the commercial.
Even when it seems as though half of the music you hear these days has been processed and auto-tuned to death, the fact is that there are still plenty of artists out there with raw talent, and the best way to recognize this is to catch their live shows. 2010 was a great year for concert-goers of all tastes.
