Back and forth bickering is nothing new when it comes to celebrity heiresses or rappers, but you don’t see it too often in the indie rock world.  When it is time to bring the cattiness though, no indie rocker can be relied up more than Wayne Coyne of Flaming Lips.  In the past, he’s gone after Beck and Nirvana’s Nevermind album.  Now, his scorn is being directed at Arcade Fire.

With less than a month before the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival reveals its 2009 lineup, to take place June 11-14 in Manchester, TN, music fans are getting antsy. And we all know what happens when music get antsy about lineups: they start rumors. Here’s are some band names floating around so far:

Led Zeppelin: I’ve got four words for everyone: Here we go again. Yes, John Paul Jones played Zeppelin classics with Ben Harper in two separate performances in 2007, and yes, Robert Plant jammed on some of the band’s tunes with Alison Krauss at last year’s festival. But let’s face it, there are Zeppelin-at-Bonnaroo rumors every year. Sadly, the dream of seeing Zeppelin headline Bonnaroo may be nothing more than a fantasy, especially considering Robert Plant’s informal announcement that he will be focusing on other performances for the next two years and recent comments from Jimmy Page’s manager, Peter Mensch:

Best Oklahoma Rock Song Finalists

ahonlogo Best Oklahoma Rock Song FinalistsIn one of the most anticipated events of the past decade, Oklahoma’s Official Rock Song Advisory Panel – now that is a really long name, which goes along with how little work they must do – has named ten finalists for the honor of being named Oklahoma’s official rock song.  The songs are split between songs you’ve never heard about Oklahoma and songs by famous bands from Oklahoma that have nothing to do with Oklahoma.

The winner gets an exhibit in the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame.  The existence of an Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame confirms my belief that Hall of Fames have gotten out of control.  There are Hall of Fames for everything, so much so that they have to take people who aren’t even famous, making them no longer even fit their own names.  But they create cushy jobs for some people and probably bring in some government money, so they’ll continue to proliferate.
