It was a breezy Venice evening when Simone White rolled up on her bike to perform for the 5th installment in the Garden Party Series. Her guitar strapped to her back, she made friends with the music fans through conversation before hand and then wowed the attentive audience with her quiet songs of imagined southern childhoods and tales of her past.
Coming off a recent European tour, Simone played an hour long set and took a break in the middle to talk with us about her musical family history, upcoming album and friends she’s made along the way. She played a few tunes off her current record from Honest Jon’s Records, I Am The Man, as well as her forthcoming album, Yakiimo, due to be released on June 12th in Europe through Honest Jon’s. Be sure to look for it on her myspace or iTunes.
I know. It’s been a while since we’ve had any Garden Party updates. The good news is, we’re back and ready to roll with Simone White this Saturday, April 25th. White has just completed a month long European tour in support of her new albumYakiimo and has agreed to grace one of our gardens with her soulful voice and beautiful melodies.
For those of you who haven’t heard of or seen a Garden Party (check out previous bands below), we take a small group of people, put them in a garden, and record one of our favorite artists with performing and answering questions from guests. We then post the videos on BeatCrave for your pleasure. Because we like to keep things intimate, you can’t buy your way into this event, the only way in is to win. Only the winners of the competition will be given the address to our super secret location.
We will only be giving away 2 pairs of tickets, to 2 lucky people who will have a chance to watch a live, acoustic, never before seen Simone White show, ask her questions during our Q&A, and hang out with her after the show.
As Los Angeles comes out of the cool and rainy season the rest of the country calls winter, The Garden Party too will be coming out of it’s hibernation with several exciting shows in the near future. Be sure to keep checking BeatCrave for announcements on the bands and ticket giveaways.
This month, in honor of their current Living Room tour in support of their band/collaboration, Come Gather Round Us, we present more selections from the magical evening that hosted the breathtaking voice and lyrics of Catherine Feeny and the visceral songwriting of The Challenge of Feral Green. We highly recommend seeing them live whether it’s in a Garden or Living Room (if you ask them to, they will play yours). The way these two artists connect with their audience is moving and intimate and will leave you wishing that it would never end.

Not long ago some of us gathered together for a rather cold Garden Party with EXITMUSIC. Despite the unusually cold 40 degree California night, EXITMUSIC played a terrific set and created one of our most serene Garden Party’s yet. If one thing’s for sure, it’s that Garden Parties attract a wide variety of artists. From musicians and filmmakers to painters and photographers, everyone there was in some way looking to add to the creativity of the night. Lucky for us, photographer Pamela Corey was there to capture the atmosphere of the concert. Check out some of her amazing photos from the show below…
Last month we featured Catherine Feeny and The Challenge of Feral Green for one of our Garden Parties on BeatCrave. The two gave one of the most heartfelt and beautiful performances I have ever seen while in the middle of what would soon be a 43 stop tour of performing in peoples living rooms. When I heard about how and why they were on this tour, I was blown away.
They managed to pay for their gas with hand drawn CD cases that they would sell in order to get to their next gig. Although I would have loved to tell you more about what I heard, the only way to truly appreciate the spirit of what these two artists accomplished, is to hear it from them. We asked Sebastian, more commonly known as The Challenge of Feral Green, if there was anyway we could write about his experiences on the road and he being the kind man that he is, obliged.
All of the below was written by The Challenge of Feral Green and left unedited by myself. Enjoy!
These two singer-songwriters were touring the country playing intimate shows in people’s Living Rooms when they stopped off in Los Angeles to perform for The Garden Party. For nearly 2 months, they traveled 15,000 miles and played close to 50 living rooms but only 1 garden – ours! Check out the videos below… Continue Reading
This is a sneak peek at December’s Garden Party presented by BeatCrave.
For this Garden Party, we were fortunate enough to be entertained with not one, but two gifted musicians – Catherine Feeny and The Challenge of Feral Green. In the midst of their US tour together, where they booked nearly 50 shows playing living rooms across the country, they made one stop in a Garden….ours!
