It’s that time of year again, when the meaningless award system known as “The Grammys” begins to dole out awards to people like Katy Perry and the Foo Fighters. The awards show won’t air until February 12, 2012, but the nominations were announced last night, during a concert which featured two performances by Lady Gaga (go ahead and sigh loudly right here).
Syl Johnson, soul legend and blues icon, is suing Kanye West and Jay-Z for sampling his 1967 song “Different Strokes” on their album Watch the Throne without permission and failing to give Johnson proper credit. Rolling Stone reports that Johnson filed a lawsuit against the klepto rappers in Illinois federal court on Friday, stating that West and Jay-Z, along with UMG, Def Jam, and Rock-a-Fella Records, used a portion of the song in “The Joy” and released it without his permission, proper credit, or even payment.
We “heard ‘em say” (lots of pun intended) that the Kanye West and Maroon 5 will be performing at Victoria’s Secret’s Runway Show on November 29th, which will air on CBS. Get ready for people wearing lingerie while listening to “Runaway” and “Never Gonna Leave This Bed”–oh wait…well, get ready to watch people wear lingerie live, we suppose.

Further, it is a technique that produces 490,000 new babies every day, which equals roughly 179,000,000 new babies every year. And yet, somehow, despite the fact that this process has created nearly 100 billion lives since the dawn of mankind, I have to stop and write about the fact that Beyonce Knowles is knocked up.
Aziz Ansari is everywhere these days—in addition to starring in NBC’s Parks and Recreation, and showing up in the new flick 30 Minutes or Less (dig our compatriot’s review here), the comedian is now popping up in the video for Jay-Z and Kanye’s (a.k.a., Watch The Throne) new song, “Otis.”
Jay-Z has had a nice year so far, having released the insanely popular The Throne as part of his Watch the Throne collaboration with Kanye West, and now he’s rocketed to the top of another chart—Forbes Magazine’s top hip hop earners of the year.
Just in case you haven’t received your fill of Kanye West team-ups today (apparently, Kanye is joining forces with the likes of Hitler and Michael Jordan—go figure), his collaboration with Jay-Z, Watch the Throne, released their first record today, cleverly titled—you guessed it—The Thorne. And while full reviews have yet to start pouring in, the initial and early reactions are already bubbling up on the internet.
Hey, remember when six million European Jews were systematically executed during World War II, and that one guy who ordered said Holocaust into action? You do? Hitler, right? Ok, good. And do you ever accidentally confuse him with a modern, egomaniacal pop star who likes to blog in all caps and wear goofy sunglasses? Oh, you don’t? Hm. Maybe someone should tell Kanye that, then.
For reasons known only to them at this point, Jay-Z and Kanye West have pushed back the massive tour in support of their new album, Watch The Throne, from September and October to November and December. Whether or not it’s because they just need to run backstage and vomit has yet to be determined.
