While there’s no pre-Oscar activity more cliché or pointless – besides pretending that they actually matter – than complaining about where the Academy missed the boat and got something wrong, please allow me a moment to complain about where the Academy missed the boat and got something wrong in 2010: the failure to nominate Karen O. and the Kids’ “All is Love” for Best Song…

Yeah Yeah Yeahs return with another music video for “Skeletons” which is directed by the lovely Karen O‘s boyfriend, Barney Clay. The track is one of the down-tempo songs on their latest album,It’s Blitz!, and it’s fair to say it’s probably the dreamiest as well.
The video is a perfect match for the ethereal tone, although the term “ethereal” is a bit of an understatement. Angels, clouds, and the supernatural all come together for black and white visuals that intrigue with the uncertainty between safety and fear. Whatever it all is, it’s a gorgeous watch. We’ve got the video plus an the “making of” footage for you below!

The Oscars just released a statement revealing which songs are nominated for the golden statue. As usual, the list is very lengthy in correlation to the many films released this year. What we find pleasing about this year’s list is the amount of indie artists who are nominated.

Miley Cyrus may be on top of the world right now but she can’t always have everything. When the Grammy nominations were revealed, Cyrus received a nod for her song “The Climb” which was released as a single for the Hannah Montana film. However, it was recently revoked when the panel discovered the song was not originally written for the film.
So who’s next in line for the Grammy nomination? Yeah Yeah Yeahs‘ Karen O for her work on Where The Wild Things Are soundtrack, and we can’t help but gloat a little bit. It’s about time the indie world has another prevalent presence at the Grammys. The winning speech from The Swell Season‘s Marketa Irgolva at the Oscars two years ago warmed out little indie hearts, and we’re hoping Karen O and The Kids will be able to do the same for the Grammys.
The opening weekend for Where The Wild Things Are was this past weekend and we’ve heard that reactions are everything from crying like a baby to feeling like the movie has been over-hyped. Turning a classic children’s story into a feature film is a lot of responsibility to take on underneath all the pressure from the critics.
Music and film go hand in hand and tunes from a general library just doesn’t cut it these days. Both film and television have been promoting new artists and in return musicians have been earning royalties from commercials. So naturally, musicians have taken advantage of scoring films within the last few years. With that said, we want to know one thing: When you went and saw Where The Wild Things Are this weekend, did the music of Karen O and the Kids do it for you? Did the music belong? Was it distracting or was it enhancing? Vote below to let us know!

The highly anticipated movie, Where The Wild Things Are, doesn’t come out until October 16th, but we DO get to hear the soundtrack a little bit earlier than the film’s release. We also just got word that the firstsingle from the compilation is Karen O‘s “All Is Love.” (Take a look at the artwork above!) The track is available starting August 25th. That’s soon!
Today is an especially good day for fans of Karen O, Dave Eggers, and Spike Jonze. Read all about it after the jump!
There’s a lot of talk about Yeah Yeah Yeahs‘ new album, It’s Blitz! Going for more of an electronic sound this time around, Karen O and her cronies have turned their post-punk skills toward dance music. So far, so good. However, this music video for “Zero” doesn’t seem to compare with “Y Control” off of their debut, Fever To Tell. Here, O comes off a little too Chrissie Hynde with her dance solo down the alley, but I do like the curtain at the beginning and the end which makes her rock star status come full circle. Watch it for yourself and let us know what you think!
