Kasabian‘s Velociraptor! contains the greatest variety of sounds and influences the British rockers have released to date. And that level of diversity can be a bit overwhelming. Luckily, the tracks are mixed just right to allow the album to remain, well, mostly connected. Overall, Velociraptor! is about action and movement. At times it feels like each song moves through a different territory; other times it feels surprising, alien and other-worldly. In fact, we almost expect to hear some of these songs accompanying the next episode of Terra Nova. Maybe it goes back to the album’s title, which even dons an exclamation point. Or maybe it’s something else…

With Spring and Summer coming up, that means one thing for music fiends: Music festivals. Now whether you’re a fan of large or small festivals, it’s probably safe to say that most people are happy to make the most of their money by seeing a ton of bands in one setting. We’ve filled you in on Coachella, SXSW, Bonnaroo, Pitchfork, and Lollapalooza and now we’ve got more to share – especially for those of you overseas.
According to NME, Scotland will be holding their annual 3-day music festival, T in the Park, on July 9 – 11 and will offer music acts, Eminem and Muse as headliners for 2010.

Kasabian have been selected as one of three headliners for next year’s T In The Park festival, which takes place in Scotland on July 9-11. The rockers from Leicester last played the event in 2007 when they appeared on the Radio 1/NME Stage.

Could the planet even deal with two Oasis-es? Or is that Oases? Regardless, British rockers Kasabian have launched an informal campaign to remind everyone that they are not, in fact, the new Oasis.
“People say we’re going to be the new Oasis — but we’re not,” Kasabian vocalist Tom Meighan told Reuters during a recent trip to Tokyo. “There is no new Oasis. We can’t be Oasis because they’ve done it. Oasis were giants in the ’90s. It’s nice when people say it, but they’re kind of missing the point.”
The Highlander was right: “There can be only one.” The not-Oasis Kasabian actually opened for Oasis in Britain this summer – then jetted to Japan for the Summer Sonic music festival.

It’s pretty hard to go on stage when just one of your members is deathly ill, let alone the lead vocalist. With tours around the world and the quick-spreading H1N1 virus – also known as Swine Flu – musicians are contracting the virus left and right.
Just like Jens Lekman was quarantined after a tour, Kasabian’s vocalist, Tom Meighan, was diagnosed with Swine Flu during the band’s stay in Sidney, Australia. Meighan was rushed to the hospital after his symptoms flared up. He was required to stay in his hotel room for several days and soon enough the rest of the band got dangerously ill as well.

The Mercury Music Prize shortlist nominations are in, and indie artists have taken over! Usually dominated by mainstream artists, 2009′s shortlist nominations include some of our favorite artists. The dreamy Bat For Lashes is nominated for her prolific Two Suns, Florence and The Machine (tomorrow’s BeatCrave Fav) is nominated for her powerful album, Lungs, our favorite androgynous duo, La Roux (and another one of our BeatCrave Favs) is nominated for their self-titled album, and of course, Glasvegas is in the mix!
The Mercury Music Prize is an annual music prize awarded for the best album from the United Kingdom or Ireland. Each year 12 artists are chosen and are heavily promoted for their nominated album and one artist wins the glorious amount of £20,000. The Mercury Prize has a reputation for “being awarded to outside chances rather than the favorites,” but we couldn’t be happier with the short list nominees this year. See the list with all 12 artists below!

Black Eyed Peas fans can rest easy! The band’s new album titled “The E.N.D” does not signify the END of the group, it actually stands for “The Energy Never Dies”. Of all the artists, and yes there are a lot, coming out with an album this week, the most exciting is Mos Def’s new one. One of the most under-rated hip hop artists of our time, Mos Def is a true lyricist that has not succumbed to mainstream pressure and has stayed authentic even after all these years.
Here is the list of albums coming out the week of June 9th:

Leicester, UK-based band Kasabian have released a new music video. The song, ‘Vlad the Impaler’, is typically offbeat for the band, and thus its video is equally as subversive. While only two minutes long, the video is effectively creepy as Vlad stomps around terrifying people.
The song isn’t the official first single off of the band’s upcoming album, ‘West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum’, which is scheduled to drop on June 8. The official first single, ‘Fire’, will be released at a later date.
