It’s been a great year for music, but this roundup is about looking forward to the future. With potentially successful collaborations on the way, a major 21st century act returning to the stage, and a rich heiress trying desperately to remain relevant, audiophiles will have a lot to talk about in the coming months. Let’s take a peek and see what’s in store for us…

Last night was the annual People’s Choice Awards, one of the few awards shows that decides who brings home a trophy by asking the general public to vote. (And by “general public,” we mean teenage girls. How else do you explain Grown Ups winning Best Comedy?)
According to MTV, it was a good show this year, with plenty of big names in the pop music world accepting awards and performing for the audience.

VH1′s Divas Salute the Troops was packed with sequins and colorful hair on Sunday night. The event was hosted by comedian Kathy Griffith and featured performances by a variety of divas. Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj covered Cyndi Lauper‘s “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.” Paramore‘s Haley Williams performed to an enthusiastic crowd in Camp Arifjan in Kuwait. And the legendary Aretha Franklin (who is recovering from surgery) received a surprise tribute from Sugarland and rapper MC Lyte.

Well, the 2011 Grammy nominations were announced last night during a special on CBS, and gosh dang heck, wouldn’t ya know it, they kind of, well, sucked. ‘Sucked’ in that way in which you can tell the Grammy organization continued to trend downward by nominating musicians not for their artistic worth, but for buzz, albums sold, and pop culture currency (of course, I could totally be wrong, because Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream isn’t really a cynical mishmash of ProTool’d modern pop clichés, meaningless lyrics and hyperslick session musician pap, but indeed is one of the five greatest albums recorded in 2010).

All current tweens and tweens of the past who are fans of magazines such as Teen Beat or Tiger Beat will be bouncing off the walls once they hear this. Katy Perry, one of the most annoying but biggest pop stars of today, will be joining mega-boy bands of the past, NKOTB (New Kids On The Block) and Backstreet Boys, on stage as part of a performance for the American Music Awards.
Whether this makes you want to watch the AMAs more or less, it’s happening and it will probably be ridiculously hilarious. Details after the jump!

Katy Perry’s breasts had the last laugh – assuming they found it funny, because it was kind of a snooze – this weekend on a Saturday Night Live, in which she joined in on a sketch which lampooned her ousting from Sesame Street for (gasp!) having cleavage.

PBS’s Sesame Street has always striven to not only promote learning and curiosity amongst its millions of young viewers over the years, but tolerance and understand as well—as long as that doesn’t apply to the female body, of course, which Katy Perry found out this week. The singer taped a performance of an augmented “Hot N Cold” with Elmo that was released early on YouTube this week, which was set to air later this month on the show. However, YouTube-savvy parents noticed something horrifying about the video, something beyond the pale of discretion and appropriate children’s programming: Katy Perry has breasts.
