As the reunited Pixies continue celebrating the 20th anniversary of their classic, 1989 album Doolittle, the band are giving fans a free download of a four-song live EP recorded during a recent stop on the quartet’s ‘Doolittle’ anniversary tour.
Recorded in Mexico City, the EP features versions of the Doolittle songs “Gouge Away,” “Monkey Gone to Heaven” and “Crackity Jones” as well as the B-side “Dancing the Manta Ray.”

Because they’re all big softies at heart (insert your own “big” and “softie” Frank Black weight joke here), Pixies celebrated the rescue of 33 trapped Chilean miners yesterday by performing a 33-song set in Chile. According to Spinner, at Santiago’s Teatro la Cupula, the band laid down an epic set, which also happened to be their first headlining gig in South America.

After nearly 40 sold out concerts around the globe since last year, The Pixies are set to bring their Doolittle Tour back to the U.S. for 11 shows, which begins September 7 at the Tower Theater in Philadelphia; the 11-city trek keeps the Doolittle Tour train a-rollin’ as the band celebrates the 20th anniversary of their classic 1989 album, Doolittle.

The alternative-rock legends Pixies played the first show of their four-night Doolittle residency at London’s O2 Academy Brixton last night (October 6). Besides hearing the seminal 1989 album in full, the band also treated the crowd by performing a bunch of B-sides. Here’s hoping they expand the tour because this is definitely one of the top ‘must see’ musical events of 2009.
