This week in music, we got some more soundtrack work, some live performances, and a lot of party albums. Not to sound like a total ogre, but if there’s a plus side to all the wars, disasters and general existential bleakness and misery in the world, it’s that we at least get some pretty good music out of it, especially in times of crisis. There are some amazing bands out there that could easily do the job, and breath new life into the film while at it. Therefore, we’ve come up with a list of musicians who we think could give Hans Zimmer a run for his money.

Spektor is set to collaborate with the lyricist Michael Korie (Broadway’s Grey Gardens) and the director Tina Landau (Superior Donuts).
Beauty is tentatively planned for the 2011-2012 Broadway season after an out-of-town tryout.
