Rise Against recently threw another album our way, but they aren’t the only popular artists with with new material to show off. Today’s roundup is all about new and upcoming albums from some of your favorite artists, as well as one from someone who may soon be a new favorite. Read on to see if anything interests you…
This week’s pics were a tricky batch — most albums got mixed reviews from many critics ranging from good to bad, no matter what album or which band. We’ve rounded up some of these reviews and compiled what looks like a good list of the best and worst albums out this week, but it’s always the best idea to check out these albums and make the decision for yourself:
As the sun crept it’s way behind Chicago’s skyline, hometown heroes Rise Against took to the main stage at Lollapalooza to infuse a little punk into the crowds staking claim to spots for the night’s prog-rock headliner, Tool. Tim McIlrath and crew started off with a bang with new song “Collapse” before heading into a more intense “State of the Union” from their breakthrough record Siren Song of the Counter Culture.

Take Action Volume 8 is a compilation CD/DVD released by Hopeless Records and their non-profit organization, Sub City. The Take Action compilations benefit DoSomething.org. With each sale, 5% of the proceeds will be donated to DoSomething.org. The goal of DoSomething.org is to empower the youth in our society, because they believe that young people know what needs to change within society, but they lack the means to do something about it. The organization donates money to young people to help them accomplish goals and make a difference within their community.
The CD includes tracks by Cute Is What We Aim For, Motion City Soundtrack, The Spill Canvas, Meg & Dia, Four Year Strong, and All Time Low. The CD includes songs previously unreleased by The Spill Canvas, Four Year Strong, and Meg & Dia. The variety of songs on the compilation is fairly diverse; spanning from a live recording of The Spill Canvas’s “All Over You,” to the electronically-inspired “Diamonds”, to Meg & Dia’s lovely, unreleased track “Halloween.” For the most part, the songs are upbeat and entertaining.
I know it’s a bit of a plug, but it’s for a good cause. 16 different bands ranging from main-streamers like My Chemical Romance and Rise Against, to hardcore rockers like Killswitch Engage & Darkest Hour have come together during the holiday season to help fight breast cancer.
