Robotanists CP 2 7 2010d ROBOTANISTS Kick Off Residency Monday Night at Silverlake Lounge

It was a relatively quiet night on Sunset Boulevard Monday night, until Sarah Ellquist DeBlanke took the stage.

The ROBOTANISTS celebrated the first night of their month long residency at Silverlake Lounge Monday, February 7th, with Death Kits, Twilight Sleep, Lanterns and a bar full of fans. Singing their new album in its entirety from start to finish, this group made it very clear they were no longer the local band looking for a win. They owned it. And it was clear after Monday night’s performance that ROBOTANISTS have matured to a level of professionalism you can see in a band when they truly believe and respect their own music.

robotanists shapes and variations LA 4 26 10 Album Review: Robotanists Shapes and Variations

It’s a bit late, but something as good as Robotanists‘ covers album Shapes and Variations deserves some love. Let’s get started…

I’ve never been one to watch American Idol, but this season I started off watching some of the performances. One thing I always heard from Simon and the rest of the judging panel was that the wannabe idols had to take a song and make it their own — here’s were my review of Shapes and Variations comes in — I didn’t understand what they meant exactly, but after listening to the latest of Robotanists, I know exactly what Simon meant. In Shapes and Variations, Robotanists have taken songs so different from their normal routine and made it their own, completely.

There’s nothing like seeing a band you love cover a song by an artist you adore. For a second, you feel that you and the band get to share the perfect experience, after all you do share the same great taste for music. That’s how Robotanists made me feel Saturday night.
